The top wines of the domaine are Corton Rognet Grand Cru, Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru and Corton En Charlemange Grand Cru. The Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2020, Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru 2020 and Corton En Charlemange Grand Cru 2016 scored 94-96 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker described the Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2020: “The king of the cellar is likely to be the 2020 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru, a striking wine in the making that wafts from the glass with notions of red berries, rose petals, exotic spices and licorice. Full-bodied, layered and perfumed, its velvety attack segues into an ample core of concentrated, vibrant fruit, concluding with a long, aromatic finish.”
The wines of the domaine are elegant, harmonious, gentle and fine.
History
At present, Domaine Michel Mallard is run by Michel Mallard junior and his father, Patrick Mallard. They took over the reins of the domaine from Michel Mallard senior - father of Patrick Mallard.
Approach
Harvesting is done manually by Michel and Patrick Mallard.
In the winery, the white grapes are crushed, pressed and fermented in the tanks. The red grapes are cool pre-macerated and then fermented with 50 percent of whole bunches. Since 2016, sulphur is added only after the malolactic fermentation. The percentage of new oak usage is from 40 to 80 percent.
