About

Domaine Rollin

Domaine Rollin is a 14 hectares estate which holds vineyards in five different appellations of Burgundy.

Since 2015 the domaine has been certified by Terra Vitis. During 19 years Simon Rollin runs the estate, he desires to make fine wines, and pays great attention to essential aspects of his working environment, in particular to the vines.

Top wines of the domaine are: Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, and Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétille Blanc Premier Cru. Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2015 scored 93, 2014 scored 92, and Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétille Blanc Premier Cru 2015 scored 90-92 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker comments on Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2015: “Matured in 50% new oak, the 2015 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has an elegant bouquet with citrus peel, walnut and lemon curd aromas that are well defined, a little backward at first but soon gaining vigor. The new oak is nicely integrated here. The palate is crisp and minerally on the entry. There is lovely balance here, well-judged acidity and great poise on the finish. Frankly, this is one of the best Corton-Charlemagne that I have encountered’.

History

In 2003 Simon Rollin took over the domaine from his father Remi Rollin, and in 2009 Simon's Rollin wife, Caroline Rollin, joined the family estate. The couple makes all their best to improve the quality and continue the life of the domaine. Nowadays the holdings are 50-50 between red and white.

Simon’s Rollin father made a great contribution to the family estate, in particular: planted some pieces of land, extended the size of the domaine, built the winery, and developed sales in bottles in France and overseas. The main value of the family estate is to progress in the quality of production while taking care to preserve and pass on their knowledge.

The roots of the domaine go back to Raymond Rollin, who was a vineyard worker in another domaine. He decided to acquire several parcels of vines and start making his own wines. In 1995 Maurice Rollin - the grandson of Raymond Rollin, dreaming to set up his own domaine, joined the family estate. The successor of Maurice Rollin is Simon Rollin.

Approach

Certified sustainable by Terra Vitis since 2015

In 2015 the Domaine Rollin was sustainable-certified by Terra Vitis. The work in the vineyard is well thought out and adapted to each parcel.

The grapes are picked manually and carefully transported in small crates to the winery. The white whole grape bunches are slowly pressed, which allows saving all their varietal aromas. After that, the vinification is carried out in wooden barrels. Simon Rollin prefers natural and non-interventional fermentation. According to the red grapes, they are hand-sorted and carefully put into vats, so as not to damage the fruits. The maceration period flows with little intervention, to preserve all the aromas and all the characteristics of the terroirs that produced it.

The wines are matured for 10 to 15 months in oak barrels, with no fining or filtration afterward.
