The estate is located in Aloxe-Corton, and it holds 8.9 hectares of vineyards. The vines are cultivated in accordance with sustainable and organic principles. Lorraine Senard-Pereira is the current winemaker of Domaine Comte Senard.
The top wines of the domaine are Corton Clos des Meix Grand Cru, Corton Blanc Grand Cru and Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru. The Corton Clos des Meix Grand Cru 2012 scored 90-92, Aloxe-Corton Blanc Grand Cru 2012 scored 89-91, Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru scored 90 by the Wine Advocate.
Robert Parker described the Corton Clos des Meix Grand Cru 2012: “The 2012 Corton Clos des Meix Grand Cru is a monopole of the domaine, 1.5 hectares since part underwent “gender realignment” and was converted to make the Corton Blanc. It has a light and airy bouquet with scents of brambly black fruit and minerals. The palate is well balanced with crisp tannins, good tension and razor-sharp acidity lining the finish that lends this great linearity and freshness. This is one of the best from Comte Senard this year.”
The wines of the domaine are expressive, fresh, delightful, with a nice complexity of flavors.
History
1857
Nowadays, the domaine is managed by Lorraine Senard-Pereira. She joined her father, Philippe Senard, in 2000. Five years later, in 2005, Lorraine Senard-Pereira totally took over the reins of the domaine.
The domaine was founded in 1857 by Comte Jules Senard, but the estate's cellars were built back in the 14th Century by Benedictine monks from the Abbaye de Sainte Marguerite.
Domaine Comte Senard owns a monopole - Corton Clos des Meix Grand Cru.
Approach
Organic, Sustainable
The vineyards’ treatment is guided by a mix of organic and sustainable principles. Everything is carried out with great care to the vine and its environment. Lorraine Senard-Pereira doesn't use herbicides or insecticides; regular grass-covering and ploughing are conducted.
Harvesting and the first sorting is done manually; the second sorting is carried out in the winery, with the help of a sorting table. Depending on the yield's condition, the grapes are totally or partially destemmed, or even not destemmed at all. For example, all 2012 vintage was made of whole grape bunches. After the destemming, the must is cooled down and kept from 5 to 12 days under the low temperatures.
The maturation process is carried out in oak barrels and lasts for 18 months.
