Domaine Germain

Domaine Germain is an outstanding family estate located in Nantoux. The holdings of the domaine consist of 19 hectares of vineyards within remarkable appellations. The vines are cultivated according to sustainable principles and domaine Germain is certified HVE (High Environmental Value) Level 3. At present, Maxime Champaud is the person in charge of the vinification process.

The top wines of the domaine are Saint-Aubin Premier Cru Les Frionnes, Beaune Premier Cru Les Grèves and Meursault Les Vireuils.

The style of the wines is rich, luscious, intense, and marvelous.

History

Maxime Champaud, Philippe's Germain nephew, joined Domaine Germain in 2008, since then he is responsible for the winemaking part. Besides, during these years Maxime Champaud extended the holdings of the domaine with 6 hectares of vineyards.

Philippe Germain is at the helm of the domaine since 1995 and currently, he is in charge of the domaine’s viticulture. By the time Philippe Germain succeeded his parents the estate owned 9 hectares of vineyards, but in the course of time, Philippe Germain extended the holdings over 13 hectares.

In 2015, Domaine Germain purchased the Beaune Premier Cru En l'Orme monopole.

Approach

Certified sustainable level 3 by HVE

The vineyards are treated according to sustainable principles and the domaine Germain is certified HVE (High Environmental Value) Level 3; no weedkillers, insecticides or pesticides are used.

Harvesting is done manually. After that, the grapes are transferred to the winery. Maturation lasts for 8 to 10 months and takes place in the barrels made by Damy Cooperage. The percentage of new oak usage is 10 to 15 percent for the whites and 20 to 30 percent for the reds.
