About

Domaine A-F Gros

Domaine A-F Gros is a domaine in 5 Grande Rue, 21630, Pommard, Caroline Parent and Mathias Parent are current winemakers. Today the domaine consists of vineyards in Vosne-Romanée and Pommard.

The top wines of the domaine are Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Richebourg, Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Echézeaux, and Moulin-à-Vent En Mortperay.

Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Richebourg 2012 scored 97, Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Echézeaux 1990, scored 94, and Moulin-à-Vent En Mortperay 2018 scored 92 by the Wine Advocate.

Tasting Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru Richebourg 2012, Robert Parker talked of it as “a very fine bouquet, very expressive with vibrant, shimmering red berry fruit, cherry liqueur, boysenberries and marmalade. This is both complex and involving. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, beautifully poised and supple, elegant and utterly harmonious on the finish. The terroir and winemaking here exude Grand Cru quality. It's probably the best wine I have ever tasted from the estate and in a different league to some older vintages that I tasted from the domaine just a few days later.”

The wine style may be described as generous yet gentle, medium to the full-bodied, with melting tannins and a succulent core of fruit, with expansive richness, an unctuous texture, and an explosively long, lovely, impeccably well-balanced finish.

History

1988

Both Caroline Parent and Mathias Parent manage the winemaking processes of domaine A-F Gros. Their father, Frangois Parent has been the previous winemaker since the very start of the domaine.

The domaine was founded in 1988. Anne-Françoise Gros, originally of Vosne-Romanée, married Frangois Parent of Pommard - where they live, though their wines have been made in substantial premises since 1998.

Caroline Parent and Mathias Parent are involved in winemaking and learning from their parents, sharing all kinds of management from vinification to marketing.

Approach

Starting from 2008 the grapes in the Domaine A-F Gros are destemmed, but not crushed. The next stage is a short cool maceration. The fermentation goes rather with pumping over than punching down. Mathias Parent has been improving the work in the vineyards.
