About

Domaine Bertagna

Domaine Bertagna is a wine grower located in Vougeot, not far from a famous wall-enclosed vineyard Clos de Vougeot. The domaine’s vision is built around respect for and a well-thought-out ecological attitude towards viticulture. The domaine grows vines according to the organic standards but without being certified. The current winemaker of the Domaine Bertagna is Denis Rozat. The style of Denis can be characterized by very fruity aromas with earthy and woody tones in Pinot Noir and powerful floral nuances in Chardonnay.

The top wines of this domaine are Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, and Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru.

Both Clos Saint-Denis 2003 and Corton-Charlemagne 2003 scored 95 by the Wine Advocate, Clos de Vougeot 2005 scored 91-93.

History

1982

Since 1988, the owner of the Domaine Bertagna has been Eva Reh-Siddle. She is the daughter of Günter Reh, who in 1982 bought the domaine from Claude Bertagna the founder. During the reign of Eva Reh-Siddle, there were multiple winemakers: Roland Masse, Claire Forrestier who was making wines between 1999 and 2005, and Denis Rozat after.

Domaine Bertagna owns Clos de la Perrière, a monopole of 2.16 hectare in Vougeot.

Approach

Organic without certification

Although the domaine has no official certification, the vineyards are farmed according to organic principles. They select ripe grapes, with up to 50 percent whole bunches. The vinification process is quite long and includes cold soak and punching down. New oak is used for the grands crus.
