Domaine Thierry Glantenay

Their vineyards cover approximately 95.10 hectares, divided into small blocks. The soil type varies from the loamy, well-drained grounds at its rear to deeper but finer soils in front of the Chateau.

The wine undergoes twenty months of ageing in 100 percent French oak barrels (74 percent new).Domaine Thierry Glantenay is located in Volnay, Burgundy and covers 7 hectares, including 10 appellations. The vineyards of the domaine are farmed according to a sustainable approach. Thierry Glantenay is the winemaker of the domaine, who inherited his passion for wines from his predecessors.

Top wines of the domaine are: Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Chênes, Pommard Premier Cru Les Rugiens and Volnay Premier Cru Les Caillerets. Robert Parker comments on Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Chênes 2015: "Thierry Glantenay's 2015 Volnay Premier Cru Clos des Chênes is superb, wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of cherries, elderberry, wood smoke and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated and complete, with a textural attack and fabulous depth and dimension, its tannins fine-grained and velvety, its finish long and intense. This benchmark Clos des Chênes was immensely promising from barrel, and though it has tightened up a little after bottling, all its huge potential is intact: the only missing ingredient is time."

Wines of the domaine are the combination of fruity aroma, terroir expression and tender farming.

History

Thierry Glantenay is the current winemaker of Domaine Thierry Glantenay, who succeeded his father Bernard Glantenay in 2005. At the time Bernard Glantenay was running the domaine, most of the production was sold to négociants. Thierry Glantenay started selling all the wines as domaine bottlings.

Approach

Sustainable

Vinification at Domaine Thierry Glantenay is being improved every year, striving for perfection, the sustainable approach is used.

Thierry Glantenay invests in better vineyards and cellar materials. Harvesting is conducted in small cases. The grapes are being destemmed. For some premiers crus, the whole bunches are used. There is no need to pump over the grapes and juice into the fermenting tanks. The maximum amount of new wood is 30 percent. The ripeness and alcohol levels are kept down, as the Volnay vineyards can provide 14 percent alcohol level in the hot years.
