History

1880

Weingut Georg Breuer is managed by the Breuer family. Marcia Breuer and Theresa Breuer are the directors, Hermann Schmoranz is the manager, and Markus Lundén is the winemaker.

The winery was founded in 1880 by Bernhard Scholl and Albert Hillebrand. The Breuer family has been the owners of Weingut Georg Breuer since the 20th century.

Georg Breuer took over the winery from his father, Peter Breuer in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1980s Georg Breuer’s sons, Heinrich Breuer and Bernhard Breuer, extended the vineyards to over 15 hectares. The further vineyard extensions include the Rauenthaler Nonnenberg and some of the best Rüdesheimer and Rauenthaler locations.

The label of the Rüdesheim Berg Schlossberg wine has been designed by artists since 1980 and changes every year.

The international labels such as Charm, Estate or Terra Montosa go back to Bernhard Breuer, who did not want to impose the difficult-to-pronounce German names on the international public and therefore settled on names from different languages.

Approach

Sustainable, member of Fair'n Green

The Weingut Georg Breuer vineyards are cultivated following sustainable principles and have been certified by Fair'n Green.

The vineyards of Weingut Georg Breuer are scattered throughout Rüdesheim and include Berg Schlossberg (artist label since 1980), Berg Rottland, Berg Roseneck; the Rauenthal vineyards are located in Nonnenberg (monopole); in Rauenthal: Pfaffenwies.

The parcels are planted with the following grape varieties: Spätburgunder (10 percent), Riesling (85 percent), Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Gelber Orlèans, and Heunisch. With the Orlèans and Heunisch grape varieties, the winery is reviving grape varieties that are historic in the Rheingau and have been almost forgotten.

The yields are kept low; the vineyards are cultivated with much respect to the local environment.
