About

Weingut Querbach

Weingut Querbach is a 10 hectares large property in Oestrich-Winkel, Rheinhau. The winery is the holding of Peter Querbach.

The Riesling wines, crafted at Weingut Querbach can mature for 10 to 20 years. Weingut Querbach wines can be characterized as fresh, aromatic, and well-balanced. Weingut Querbach was a long-time member of the VDP, but found the rules too restrictive and handed down his membership in 2014.

The Gutsriesling, Ortsriesling, and the Lagenriesling from the Oestricher Lenchen (Querbach N°1) and the Erste Gewächs from the Oestricher Doosberg make up the basis of the wine production. The Riesling "Milestone" Oestrich Doosberg has up to 20 years of ageing potential. All dry or trocken wines are vinified in the Charta Rheingau style. Moreover, bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced there.

History

Weingut Querbach is the property of the Querbach family. Peter Querbach is the owner, but his father, Wilfried Querbach, still assists him in the winemaking business.

The family also holds a guest house next to the winery.

Approach

The vineyards of Weingut Querbach are planted with two grape varieties – Spätburgunder (2 percent), and Riesling (98 percent). The vineyard soils have 2.5 to 3 percent humus, which makes the basis for further fermentation.

The vineyards cover ten hectares of vineyards in the locations Doosberg and Lenchen (Oestrich), Schönhell (Hallgarten), as well as Hasensprung (Winkel).

In the cellar spontaneous fermentation is preferred with the use of natural yeasts. The wines age in stainless steel vats and are then matured on the fine yeast. All wines are aged this way for a long time, which is the so-called "sur lie" aging which gives the wines an additional balance.

Since 1999 the bottles have been sealed with a StainlessCap, a stainless steel crown cap, specially developed by Peter Querbach.

The wines are bottled relatively late and appear on the market a year later. ater.
