About

Domaine Roux Père & Fils

Domaine Roux Père & Fils is a 19th century part domaine, part négociant in Saint-Aubin, Burgundy. Today the winemakers, Mathieu and Sébastien Roux, cultivate 70 hectares of vineyards according to the sustainable approach, but without being certificated.

The Roux family owns vineyards throughout 13 villages located in the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits and Côte Chalonnaise.

The top wines of Domaine Roux Père & Fils are: Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Garenne, Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères, and Saint-Aubin Premier Cru La Chatenière.

The Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Garenne 1989 scored 87, the Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères 1989 scored 86, and the Saint-Aubin Premier Cru La Chatenière 1989 scored 86 by the Wine Advocate.

Robert Parker comments on Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Garenne 1989: “This is some of the best wine I have ever tasted from this negociant in Burgundy's Chalonnais region. I had a slight preference for the 1989 Puligny-Montrachet-La Garenne because it combines elegance with richness, and displays more fruit and length than the fine, buttery, full-bodied 1989 Puligny-Montrachet-Enseignieres. Both wines should be drunk over the next 5-6 years. A Peter Vezan Selection, various importers”.

History

1885

Brothers Mathieu and Sébastien Roux are the 5th winemaker generation who joined the family estate in 2003 and began to produce Domaine Roux Père & Fils wines. They are scrupulous in their winemaking, and pay a lot of attention to the details.

During the reign of Roux brothers Domaine Roux Père & Fils extended with some parcels, in particular in Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin.

The roots of the domaine go back to 1885, when Fernand Roux founded the domaine.

His grandson Marcel Roux, born in 1927, played a significant role in the development of the domaine, extending the holdings to over 25 hectares with vineyards in Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Santenay. Soon Marcel Roux was joined by his three sons and they together enlarged the portfolio of appellations by buying new plots.

Approach

Sustainable

Domaine Roux Père & Fils is farmed according to the sustainable approach, but without being certificated. Some parcels are harvested by machine.

The brothers are pushing in many directions from the perspective of winemaking and chose amphora as an alternative way to produce some cuvées.
