Cave de Viré

Cave de Viré is a relatively small cooperative located in Viré with 240 hectares of vineyards spread over the Mâconnais slopes of the ancient Châtellenie de Vérizet, Burgundy. The Cave de Viré holdings are included in the appellations of Mâcon, Mâcon-Villages, Mâcon Péronne, Viré-Clessé, and Crémant de Bourgogne. The viticulture is sustainable, not certified.

The chairman is Stéphane Jacob.

The wines of the cooperative are charming and full of fruit.

The top wines of Cave de Viré are Viré-Clessé Cuvée Grande Réserve, Viré-Clessé Quintaine, and Mâcon-Villages. On CellarTracker, the Viré-Clessé Cuvée Grande Réserve 2019 scored 99, Viré-Clessé Quintaine 2013 scored 90, and the Mâcon-Villages 2007 scored 89.5.

History

1928

Cave de Viré includes 40 winegrowers, with Stéphane Jacob at the helm.

Cave de Viré was founded in 1928 by wine producers who joined in coping with the financial difficulties caused by the First World War and phylloxera crisis.

In 1958, the wines of Cave de Viré entered the Paris market, and in 1972 the export market. Besides, in 1970, the cooperative set up wine bottling.

In 1995 Cave de Sennecé-lès-Mâcon and Cave de Viré established a wine storehouse in the village of Viré - Le Chai de Sennecé.

Sustainable

The viticulture of Cave de Viré is sustainable, not certified. Grape harvesting, vinification, blending and maturation of the wines are carried out at the following locations in the department of Saône-et-Loire: Clessé, Laizé, Montbellet and Viré.
